Patty LaDuke’s photo that hangs in The Image Flow Group Exhibit was taken as an assignment in Photo Essentials I.
Patty LaDuke took the above photo as a student in our Photo Essentials I workshop. Here, she shares the full story:
Our assignment in the Photo Essentials I class was “reflections.” My daughter was taking a swimming lesson at the Mill Valley Community Center pool and I noticed the light was really beautiful so I snuck outside to take some pictures. I was taking a picture of her swimming lesson through the window from outside. I loved how the light reflected on the water but I didn’t even realize at the time all of the other stories that would appear in the final picture.
I was delighted and surprised by what the picture captured. I love the abstract quality to it, and the little stories the moment captures about life in Mill Valley—the mother sitting in the chair watching her child’s lesson, the kids playing soccer on the field outside.
I absolutely love the Image Flow. I’ve taken three classes and learned so much, and I’m completely inspired to learn more. Stuart and Matt are so talented and patient, and are building this great community that is encouraging to photographers at all levels. The Image Flow is one of those very special gems that makes Mill Valley an extraordinary place.
