Photo Contest Winner Donates His Prizes to My Sandy Hook Family Fund

Is It Live, Or Is It Memorex? by Brian Toogood

We received an email from the Santa Fe Workshops today that we wanted to share with you.

The Sandy Hook Tragedy: A Unique Opportunity to Help

On December 7 we announced that Brian Toogood was the Grand Prize winner of our OUTSIDE photo contest. Yesterday, we discovered just how aptly named Brian Toogood truly is.

Brian has asked that we auction off the prize package and that the proceeds go to the My Sandy Hook Family Fund. We, and the contest sponsors involved, are moved by Brian’s request and honored to help him achieve his goal. And now we reach out to our Santa Fe Workshops community.

This is the letter, in part, that we received from Brian:

“It was quite an honor to be named the Grand Prize Winner, and quite a thrill.

I was really looking forward to all of the great prizes. However, since last Friday, my heart has sunk and has not resurfaced. I have cried and mourned more than just a little, as all of America has, for the innocence lost at Sandy Hook, as well as for the brave teachers and principal that put their own bodies between the bullets and the children. I felt quite helpless, and then I received your email about the prizes.

I do not in any way want to appear ungrateful to Santa Fe Photo Workshops, or to the many sponsors donating the prizes – but I wish to donate the entire prize package to the My Sandy Hook Family Fund charity.

Brian Toogood”

The prize package is valued at $4,463 and includes: The workshop of your choice in Santa Fe including tuition, fees, meals, and housing at the Residence Inn by Marriott; a Lensbaby Composer Pro with Sweet 35 Optic; a Think Tank Photo Airport Security™ V 2.0 Rolling Camera Bag; a Wacom Intuos5 Touch Medium Pen Tablet; a Lumiquest Location/Portrait Kit, LQ-136; Epson Exhibition Fiber Paper, 13×19″, 25 sheet box; and a Santa Fe Workshops exclusive Inspirational Series DVD gift set. Full descriptions.

We ask that bids start at $2,000. You can email your bids to Bidding closes on Friday, December 28, 5pm MST. The winning bid will be announced on Saturday, December 29. The winning bidder will make the donation directly to the My Sandy Hook Family Fund, and The Workshops and contest sponsors will deliver prizes just after the New Year. All bids will be strictly confidential. To determine if your donation is tax deductible please consult with your personal tax advisor.

If you do not wish to bid on the prize package, or if you would like to donate prior to the winning bid being announced go to My Sandy Hook Family Fund.
Again, we are touched and honored by Brian’s request, and we hope that we can all participate in supporting it. Please email any questions to
