No matter if your child is just discovering photography, or if they’re already an experienced shooter, The Image Flow has workshops to help them develop their style and vision.
School’s almost out, but that doesn’t mean the learning stops—it just becomes a lot more fun! This summer, The Image Flow is has designed a collection of photography workshops for kids, no matter what their experience level.
OMG! Summer Photography for Youth is the perfect workshop for kids ages 11 to 14 with little to no experience in photography. Participants will take daily photo walks during which they will learn about using their camera’s manual settings while developing and honing their visual acuity, looking for light, shadows, and shapes. The workshop is taught by The Image Flow’s own Constance Chu, who has a background in psychology, a small family portraiture business, and absolutely loves to work with kids. The workshop starts August 4.
Youngsters who are interested in going into the darkroom, fine art photographer Marianne Owens is offering Introduction to the Darkroom & Alternative Photography Workshop for Kids. This is a great, no-experience-necessary introduction to alternative process photography. Participants will learn to make cyanotypes, image transfers, and work with paper negatives, photograms, and pinhole cameras in this five-day workshop July 13 – 17.
Teens 14 to 19 interested in taking their visual storytelling skills to the next level will love Talking Pictures: Visual Storytelling for Teens. Lead instructor Susanna Frohman has worked extensively with teens teaching storytelling and photojournalism through several photo camps and mentor programs. In this five-day workshop June 26 – July 2, participants will work together to shoot, edit, and sequence a photographic story.
For additional guidance outside or in addition to these workshops, TIF founder and long-time commercial photographer Stuart Schwartz offers one-on-one shooting and editing sessions for photographers of all ages. For students getting ready to apply to college, Stuart can help them prepare and submit their portfolios.
