Nurture your photographic project in this mindful photography workshop and explore concepts of stillness, intuition, and wonder.

To be creative, we must learn to guard the stillness in our lives and cultivate a practice that honors it. Quiet time allows us to make space for a different state of being, leaving behind the preoccupations of our to-do lists and our monkey brains and allows us to reside in a state of simply being. Being is where the magic and creativity happens.

Instructor Lucy Goodhart will lead mindfulness photography exercises that have the potential to shape and inform the students’ image-making process and ultimately deepen their photographic practice.

Students will be encouraged to commit to a regular practice of exploring mindfulness in photography throughout the 8-week course that will bring structure to the elusive nature of the creative process.

 

This mindful photography workshop is particularly beneficial for those wanting to nurture the seed of an idea or project. It will provide disciplined structure as well as critique sessions to help bring an idea to fruition.

This mindful photography workshop meets every other Saturday

Saturday, September 21, 10:30AM–12:30PM: Session One – STILLNESS
Meet on Mount Tam at Rock Spring Trailhead. Introductions & presentation about stillness, 30-minute sit-time alone in Nature, re-group and open discussion about photographic practice, Assignment 1 set.

Saturday, October 5, 10:30AM–12:30PM: Session Two – INTUITION
Meet at The Image Flow. Re-group, open discussion about Assignment 1 Stillness homework, Critique 1 – review 3–5 prints each, presentation about intuition, Assignment 2 set.

Saturday, October 19, 10:30AM–12:30PM: Session Three – WONDER
Meet at The Image Flow. Re-group, open discussion about Assignment 2 Intuition homework, Critique 2 – review 3–5 prints each, presentation about wonder, Assignment 3 set.

Saturday, November 2, 10:30AM–12:30PM: Session Four – FEEDBACK
Meet at The Image Flow. Re-group, open discussion about Assignment 3 Wonder homework, Critique 3 – review 3–5 prints each.

Saturday, November 16, 10:30AM–12:30PM: Session Five – WRAP PARTY
Meet at The Image Flow. Final session of mindful photography workshop with presentation of final images with informal critique.

Instructor Bio

Lucy Goodhart was born in London in 1975 and raised in the flatlands of East Anglia. She earned her degree in Editorial Photography from the University of Brighton in 1997 and is an award-winning photographer with the Association of Photographers in London.

Lucy’s objectives lie ever rooted in the desire to capture the unseen, the overlooked and the fundamentally forgotten.

Her work is included in the Eric & Louise Franck London Collection of photographs archiving life in London which was gifted to Tate Britain in 2012. Lucy is a contributing photographer to the UK picture library Millennium Images. She coordinates commissions in editorial and publishing alongside self-initiated fine art projects. She currently resides in San Francisco, California where she is working on a number of personal and commercial projects.
