If you are an intermediate-level photographer excited by the possibilities of night photography, this is the course for you.
Photography does not have to be a daytime activity only. Cameras have the unique ability to record more light than human eyes can see at night. Through long exposure, your photographs can reveal things hidden in the shadows, explore motion blur, star trails, the surreal look of moonlight, and more. Learn the technical skills essential to making captivating photographs at night, while being supported to pursue your own creative questions.
The 5 class sessions, spaced 1 week apart, include nighttime photoshoots in new locations, followed by supportive group critiques.

Instructor Bio

Hendrik Paul is a black-and-white photographer from Mill Valley, California. He processes each roll of film by hand and prints in the traditional silver gelatin format, meticulously crafting each print to capture nature’s tranquil and meditative qualities. This hands-on approach is essential to his work, reflecting a deep connection to the process.
Paul received his BA in 2003 from Providence College and an MFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2009. His exhibitions include Meditative Landscapes at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Depth of Perception at the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), and Landscape Other at Rayko in San Francisco.
Paul recently completed Dark Light, his second book project with Datz Press in South Korea. He continues to work from his studio darkroom in Mill Valley.
