The Image Flow is pleased to welcome our newest team member Constance Chu.
Constance Chu, the newest member of The Image Flow team, has a PhD in psychology with an emphasis in neuroscience, and her most recent job was using applied behavior analysis to teach children who have autism. So what is she doing at The Flow you ask? No, she’s not developing a new darkroom process—yet.
“Photography is my passion!” she says. “I want to be immersed in photography. I want to be around it all the time.”
Despite her scientific upbringing, she comes with a rather impressive photographic pedigree. Her first digital photography course was in the fall of 2011 at the Ottawa School of Art in Canada. Not long after returning to California, she began working with Magnum photographer Jim Goldberg in San Francisco, first as an intern and then as his interim studio manager.
Constance has also built a small photography business of her own doing family portraiture and documentary projects. “I have two kids, so it was the clientele that I had the most obvious access to. But also, I love working with children. I have the best time with kids. So it’s my little niche.”
With all that on her plate, what did she want with a full-time job at The Flow you wonder? Her answer was so sweet it made us blush a little bit: “It is very desirable to be in an environment where I’m surrounded by great artists and I have the opportunity to learn new techniques.”
Constance will be handling all of the administrative work at The Flow. Her unofficial title is The Glue That Holds The Place Together. Remember that workshop you were planning to sign up for? Give her a call—she’ll get you sorted.
In the meantime, we asked Constance to sound off on a few important issues:
Favorite place to shoot in the Bay: China Camp State Park in San Rafael.
Sunrise or Sunset: Sunset, definitely!
Canon or Nikon: Canon 5D Mark II.
If you could go back to film would you do it? I have a Polaroid 180 Land Camera, it’s a fully manual instant film camera. I love to play with that.
Favorite tool in Photoshop: Curves.
Welcome to The Flow Constance, we’re pleased to have you!
