The Image Flow proudly presents our 7th Annual Alternative Process Photography Exhibition, a juried exhibition featuring 31 artists working with a wide variety of historical and analog photographic printing processes.
Cyanotypes, Platinum Palladium, Carbon Transfers, Wet Plate-Collodion, Lumens, Gum Bichromate, Photogravure and Chlorophyll prints along with many multiple-process works, are all represented in this show. Each image can be one of a kind due to the nature of working with these non-commercial processes—mixing emulsions and coating materials such as Suminagashi by hand are customary to alternative process work. Artists often continue their process by adding hand-embellishments to prints with ink, oil pastels, embroidery and in one particular case elk teeth. The prints are made on a variety of unique materials including tea bags, leafs, textiles, metal plates, and wooden panels.
The exhibition is curated from over 273 submissions from photographers living and working throughout the United States, including many San Francisco Bay Area photographers.

Diane Chung was born in Hong Kong and currently lives in San Francisco, California. She founded CHUNG 24 GALLERY in San Francisco’s Noe Valley neighborhood in 2021. Prior to being a gallerist, Diane was a fine art photographer whose work was shown domestically and internationally. She also had various positions in the financial sector from regulator at a stock exchange to managing director at a private equity firm. Diane holds degrees from Golden Gate University and Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
For over 25 years Brenton Hamilton has sustained a unique body of work, largely concentrated within historic process: gum bichromate forms, platinum, the embellished cyanotype, and collodion on black glass. He leads the photography program at the University of Texas in the Rio Grande Valley, and previously was a leading educator and historian at Maine Media Workshops. Brenton’s work is held in the permanent collections of The Farnsworth Art Museum, The Portland Museum of Art, Maine, The University of New England, the Lamar Dodd Art Center, and the Colby College Museum. He is represented by TILT Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona and The Page Gallery in Camden, Maine. In 2017 The University of Maine Museum of Art installed a mid-career retrospective of his decades of practice. His monograph A Blue Idyll, Cyanotypes and Dreams was released in 2022 by Schilt Publishing, Amsterdam.
Zack Sumner Schomp was raised fifty-one miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in a town celebrated for its apples. An alumni of San Francisco Art Institute and Mills college, he is a practicing artist, lecturer at CSU East Bay and Sonoma State Universities, a darkroom photography instructor at Oxbow School, and the current board president for PhotoAlliance.
