Discover the endless possibilities of encaustic photography in a supportive and inspiring group setting. Whether you’re new to encaustics or already familiar with wax-based art, this workshop offers the perfect space to experiment, create, and receive feedback from both your peers and instructor.
Explore techniques like layering photographs with wax, embedding mixed media, and creating textured encaustic collages. We’ll cover heating, fusing, and manipulating wax, as well as working with colors and brushes.
All encaustic supplies, including wax and two 5×7-inch or 6×6-inch wood panels, are provided. Bring your own materials to personalize your work, and if you’d like to keep creating, additional panels will be available for purchase.

Margot HartfordMargot Hartford is a Bay Area lifestyle and fine art photographer. While serving as a docent at SFMOMA, she discovered encaustic painting through the work of Jasper Johns. Inspired, she created a small studio in her home and experimented with using wax to produce pieces of art incorporating her photography. Now she teaches various Encaustics workshops at The Image Flow, and elsewhere, and continues to use photography in her pieces. Margot has a studio at the ICB in Sausalito.
