Marin Magazine recently featured Gallery 291 and its owner Ed Carey in a recent article, in which author Cheryl Popp calls the gallery a “social haven for local artists, photographers and aficionados.”
Carey first opened the gallery at 291 Geary St.; it was only fitting that it be named Gallery 291, an homage to Alfred Stieglitz’s gallery by the same name at 291 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Stieglitz’s gallery was a showcase for avant-garde photography and art of the time. Carey moved his gallery inside The Image Flow last year.
“It seemed only logical that the gallery share space with The Image Flow, a high-end digital print shop that also offers classes and workshops in photography. The spacious, unassuming site off of Miller is a hidden gem that lends itself to both enterprises,” writes Popp.
The Mill Valley gallery will next showcase Dan Estabrook. An opening reception will be held August 23.
