The Image Flow invites artists closely tied to the LGBTQIA2+ community to submit work to our juried photography exhibition Queer Conscience 2023. What could you do with a clear conscience? Who could you be? How could you live, free of judgment, shame, expectation, or fear? The queer experience is unlike any other, and even within our vibrant community, no two queer identities are quite alike. This is what has the power to unite us; a respect for our differences that can create bonds like family. Living as a queer person can be complex, and frightening, and beautiful all at once.

Stephen Shore is one of the great contemporary American color photographers and one of the early pioneers of color as well. He has two books on photography– “American Surfaces” in which he took “snapshots” of his road trips across America with his 35mm camera. His second book was “Uncommon Places” where he once again went on a series of road trips, this time taking an 8×10 view camera and photographing more urban landscapes. A vignette of humanity, possibility, and self-reinvention in 1970s Hollywood, as captured by an adventurous and inquisitive 21-year-old. Book Release: September 14, 2022 Lecture & Reception: Thursday, December 1, 7:00–8:30PM Guest Register chronicles the residents of the St. Francis Hotel, a pay-by-the-week establishment in Hollywood, over a 3-week period in spring, 1975. The curious photographer is Penny Wolin, a then 21-year-old art student from Cheyenne, Wyoming, who checked her judgments at the door. This portrait monograph records her stay there.
